Frustrated with a lack of traffic...I have put together some ideas that might make some sense:
1) SEO - Search Engine Optimization
2) Use Social Media to promote
3) Cross Promotion with other Websites
4) Blog, Blog, Blog....
5) Update Your Site Regularly!!!!
6) Consider Updating Your Site - Give it an overhaul
Below are the explanations of all six points. I hope these find you well and would love to discuss with you more if interested. Thanks for your time and I hope this helps.
1) SEO - Search Engine Optimization- If your current site has lots of images but not much text...Google just might not like you??? Google looks at the first 65 kilobytes of information of the site. So, if the metatags are not worded properly, the site has lots of pictures, limited text, and lots of un-necessary code...then Google has not much to work with to digest.
Meta Tags can be defined as the place where "supplementary information is placed on a webpage that isn't intended for the page visitors to see, but is used to pass information to search engine crawlers, browser software and other applications."
2) Use Social Media to Promote Your Site- Here are a few of the Social Media Sites:
LinkedIn.com,
Facebook.com,
Twitter.com,
Flicker.com- Everytime there is an event, press release, something new, it needs to be updated on the site and then promoted by updating on Social Media sites. The more you can cross promote using other web resources...the more you will drive traffic to your site.
3) Cross Promotion with other Websites (Partners like VIEW)- The more places you can put links to your sites, the more Google likes you. It puts you further up in the rankings, forces more traffic to your site because of more exposure to your site and logo. This also means that it is to your benefit to link to other sites from your current even if you are not getting any financial benefit...once you increase your hit traffic, then you can really charge for advertising. Right now...it is time to focus on increasing hits.
4) Blog, Blog, Blog....People are information hungry...trust me! Create blogs for individuals within your organization and link to and from the blogs to your website. This is a place to advertise your "Intellectual Property"...imagine becoming a thought leader in your region. Write about it...react to local news stories, market trends, new businesses, events, etc...become a thought leader online.
5) Update Your Site Regularly!!!!This brings everything that I have stated previously all in one point. If you update the site regularly and make sure people can find the information...people will become regular subscribers to your information. You need to provide rich information for your target audience...give a reason for people to come and enjoy your site.
6) Consider Updating Your Site - Give it an overhaulIf your current website is cumbersome and hard to update, then consider an overhaul. Today's websites can be updated as fast as the information is created...and can be as easy as writing in a Word Document. Giving it an overhaul gives you a chance to "clean-up" the code and make it more search engine friendly. Using "web 2.0" concepts can greatly cut down on the "fluff" associated with older web technology and helps to put the pertinent information farther up in the raw web page code.
Plus, the new sites can be built to embrace "rich media" like video, blogs, images, etc...information people are looking for when surfing on the web. The new Content Management Systems (CMS) Software makes it so you can update your site from anywhere you have web access without any extra software for web development.
